Time to celebrate those pragmatic powerhouses born between December 22nd and January 20th
2020 PYREN VINEYARD ‘Côt Franc’
Part Malbec, part Cab Franc from the Pyrenees. The Côt Franc is fresh and vibrant, while still possessing the tannic backbone needed to satisfy the structured goat.
Raucous perfume, lifted notes of raspberry, red cherry and herbs. An introduction that is self-assured and authoritative. Crunchy red berry notes are met with a masculine edge. The Malbec offers something darker - cassis, earthy tannins, tobacco. Discerning, yet still lifted.
A marriage of contrasts. Illuminated by carbonic maceration the Cab Franc is lively, serving to brighten the Saturnian seriousness. While, equally weightless, the Malbec stands firm acknowledging a penchant for structure.
Determined, this drop holds on to the palate through puckering tannins. A wine testament to the staying power of Capricorn. Length for days.
2019 PATRICK SULLIVAN ‘Baw Baw’ Chardonnay
A precise Jura-esque Chardonnay hailing from Baw Baw Shire in Gippsland, Victoria. Biodynamically farmed for the earthy Capricorn.
Mineral aromas of flint and stone fruit characters. The palate is structured, generous and broad, showing notes of bright nectarine, yellow peach and lemon zest. A creamy, silky, lush quality to the fruit notes, combined with high acid and a saline drive, delivers abundance of flavour and persisting length. An expression of exceptional standards.
In a homage to quality over quantity, this low yielding drop reflects impeccable purity and finesse. A fitting reminder that you reap what you sow. A special wine and a true testament to the ever-toiling nature of Capricorn.
